Reared in Gympie, Wayne Sachs is very passionate about the district in which he lives - and he is often heard heaping praise on the people who make up this wonderful community.
“Although I have worked extensively around south-east Queensland in my professional careers as a registered nurse and ambulance paramedic, I always knew that Gympie was always where I would come back to, as I just love the place. As a professional, one needs to move away for awhile to gain experience so that your outlook is not blinkered”, he said recently in an interview with a media outlet.
Mr. Sachs first entered local government in 2000 when he was elected to the Cooloola Shire Council, and re-elected in 2004, topping the poll in that division (Div.4).
Having served two terms on Council, Mr. Sachs is well-experienced to form part of a team to ensure sensible and sustained growth of the region.
As somebody who is never afraid to speak out strongly for something that he believes in, Wayne Sachs has strong views on the future direction of the Gympie Region. With the region developing rapidly, growth needs to managed in a sensible and sustainable way to ensure for future prosperity and a legacy that future generations will benefit from.
He is well-known for his down-to-earth and forth-right views, but more so for his honesty, integrity, common sense and compassion that he has bought to Cooloola Shire Council over the last 8 years.
During this time he has served on both the Works and Services and Administration and Finance Committees.
Professionally, Wayne Sachs is a registered general nurse and midwife, and also holds certificates in Maternal and Child Health and Accident and Emergency Nursing. He undertook both his general and midwifery training at Gympie General Hospital from 1973-6 and 1976-7 respectively. He spent 20 years as a full-time nurse, and served the ambulance service in an honorary and relieving capacity over this same period of time, until 1993, when he commenced full-time with the ambulance service in Gympie. The following year he was appointed the Officer in Charge at Childers, and in 1995 was appointed as Officer in Charge at Cooroy Ambulance.Later that same year (November), he was appointed as Officer in Charge at Gympie, a position he still currently holds.
Academically, and in addition to his nursing qualifications, Mr. Sachs holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing); Bachelor of Health Science (Pre-Hospital Care); Master of Health Administration; Advanced Diploma of Health Administration; Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing Management); and an Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Ambulance).
